Spring in January

Today is so beautiful! Blue sky, breeze, seventy-five degrees!

One of the things visitors to central and southern Texas often don't realize is how beautiful it can be in winter. In between cold fronts (which don't last long, for that matter), you have soft breezes and days where you need neither heat nor air conditioning. That's the time to visit Houston in particular. Spectacular January.

I have the windows open right now and I can hear the birds chittering. They flit between feeders and trees, but their movement has lost the desperate energy it possessed only a couple of days ago. It's almost as if they believe it might actually be such an early spring.

We human inhabitants of this small parcel of real estate, however, know better. And we'll just enjoy it while it's here.

I love that first picture you have up! I recently had an early morning where i was walking in the sunlight to go back inside, and a bird called my attention to the day taking shape. Blue blue sky, gorgeous sunrise, the early morning quiet that we even get in Houston, and that bird singing to me. It was a great start to my day. Glad to know others appreciate these days with me.

And wasn't yesterday a particularly beautiful day. I pity your readers up north, but I suppose they love their weather too or they’d all move here!

I love winter. I spend more time outdoors in winter than I do in any other season. The birds, the cold air, fros on the grass, watching all type of wildlife all appeal to me as does a real fire in a fireplace. Unlike the other seasons, you have to look for something beautiful in the winter and if you look, there are as many wonderful sights to reward you as offered by other season. I also love spring and fall. There are even things about summer that I enjoy - but not the high humidity and heat.

With 65 inches of snow in the month of December alone here in Michigan, I initially wished we could have some spring in January after I read your post. But you know, I really enjoy the white stuff. I don't think it would feel like winter without our lake-effect weather here. Maybe a long, cold, white winter is why I so crave spring. Anyway, I enjoyed your post! :)

To hear talk of spring is like a tease to us northerners that can't seem to escape the constant snow and cold. Lovely blog!
