Rejoice

In central Texas this Easter morning, it is raining. Slowly, in fits and starts, but with luxurious quantity.

After the drought of the past few years, we open to rain in the way a resurrection plant from West Texas does.

We lie dormant, brown, dessicated--and then the slow rain falls and we fill with moisture; we swell, become plump again with greenness. We ready ourselves to receive sunlight once more and grow.

Isn't it wonderful when, after a period without rain, it suddenly rains again. There is a smell as the rain hits the grass and the pavements and immediately the flowers lift their faces to the sky and the grass stands up straight. The rain washes all the dust off the leaves and leaves the place sparkling clean - I love it.

Hooray for wet glorious water! What a relief it must be.

The lake at Hermann Park half evaporated last summer and it was scary. Right now it is full and the grasses are green from the rain. I hope it stays that way...!
