Following Up

Today I finished a draft of my novel, although I have to go back to make sure all the times of day in the last couple of chapters link up. It doesn't really relate as much to the story of the amnesiac woman whose family doubts her, as it might. My character has been amnesiac and lies about the duration, and is thought to lie about other things, but it's not quite the same. Her form is that of dissociative amnesia, or fugue--where the person runs away after an emotional trauma of some kind, and is unaware for a period of time who they are.

About the stalker, I referred to in the last post. He's a person who found me through my business. There is a romance to the history of where our company's main business is located--romance, that is, if the early oil industry interests a person. The alleged stalker seems to be a young man who takes the environmental necessity of green energy very seriously (as do I, for that matter). I feel he wishes to make a symbolic statement in the place where our business is located, and I am unsure whether that would cause physical harm to something or someone. His tone in the missives he sends in the wee hours of the morning indicate that he views himself as some kind of a savior. The grandiosity is what concerns me. Also the persistence.

We've had a stalker before, and we knew him and he seemed well meaning--but very persistent and needful of attention.

What do you all think? Have you ever had this kind of unwanted attention?

Yes, and it can be, has been, very scary and dangerous. It taught me to trust my gut feelings, and to take a closer look... from a distance. I read once, for women, if you have the feeling somebody's not right, scary, bad, but nothing happens... it doesn't mean you were wrong. Just means they changed their mind. Don't give him a chance to change his mind...

My wife has been stalked several times. One we feel was totally harmless. At least two were very dangerous. One followed her home. At first he never showed any signs of being a stalker. My wife thought he had reason to drive the same route she drove every day. The fact that he drove down our residental street concerned her but our streeet had become a cut through. He likely followed her longer than she realized. One day he pulled into our driveway, blocking her car in and approached her car. She laid on the horn and two high school boys next door scared him off. The police spoke with him watched our home for a while. Eventually we moved.
Eleven years ago, a guy followed her as she was leaving church. Once again, she thought nothing of it. The following week, he was waiting for her, he tried to run her off the road (290) several times. Fortunately she drove a very fast and nimble sports car. A guy in a Chevy pick-up noticed what was happening He got involved, signaled her to take off, and he ran the creep off the road.

Congratulations on finishing the draft.

I've never had a stalker, and I hope never to have one. Sounds very scary to me, something to take seriously.

I'm sure you have a great sense of pride and accomplishment after finishing the draft of your novel. Congratulations and good luck!

Be very careful in regard to the stalker. It could be that this person is harmless and then again how many nuts haven't been out there through the years. Do what is best for yourself. Blessings.

It has been a days since you finished the draft. Congratulations and how are you feeling about it today? I hope the stalker has been resolved, too. Getting the draft finished should be a good time for you and not marred by someone who latched onto you without invitation.
